Economics is no longer accepting new applications.
Teaching
Each student will take 7 modules. All modules (except Econometric Methods) have 18 hours of lectures. The module on Econometric Methods has 27 hours of lectures.
Requirements
Attendance of the Preparatory Course on Mathematics and Statistics
Compulsory modules in Microeconomics, Macroeconomics and Econometrics
Optional modules
One to one supervision | All diploma students will be assigned a Director of Studies who will be their formal supervisor for the course. They will arrange to meet students early October and then ongoing as agreed.

Seminars & classes | Five classes for each of the modules in Microeconomics and Macroeconomics and seven classes for Econometrics which include Problem Sets. |
Lectures | The total number of lecture hours for the course is 135 hours. Each student takes 7 coursework modules; each module has 18 hours of lecture time, except Econometrics, which has 27 hours of teaching. The Preparatory Course consists of 51 hours of lecture time. |
Feedback
There is an internal examination on the material covered in the preparatory course which is assessed on a pass/fail basis. Failing this preparatory course will indicate that a student will need to improve their mathematical skills to cope with the main part of the course.
There are some practice exams in January and students receive feedback on their performance.
Classes in problem sets take place for compulsory modules and some optional modules.
Assessment
Thesis / Dissertation
There is no thesis for this Course.
Essays
There is a compulsory project for Microeconomics which runs in December and optional modules may also have compulsory projects, essays and or exams.
Written examination
Written examinations take place in April-June.
Other
Mid-Course examinations will be held for the Microeconomics, Macroeconomic, and Econometrics Modules and are held in the week prior to the beginning of the Lent Term. The examinations will be of 1.5, 2, or 3 hours’ duration. These mock exams will give students the opportunity to practice under examination conditions for the formal April-June examinations, and will also give a good indication of progress.
